About me
Building a 30+ year career of special needs expertise, educational excellence and home schooling experience with 3 adult children, has provided me with a unique insight into a wide range of home school education needs. Additionally, with over a decade of professional evaluation experience as a PA elementary certified teacher with more than 2 years experience grading secondary education, there is very little I can’t do short of approval of special education home school programs.
Q&A
How did you come to the world of home schooling initially?
Started thinking about the process before having kids. Once I had kids is when I got serious about it and started home schooling in 2000. Even though my family and peer pressure tried to guilt me into the traditional public school system, I maintained my convictions.
What prompted you to home school your three children?
When my oldest daughter was miserable and bored to tears with public school. As an early reader at 5 the traditional system didn’t fit with her independent and self taught nature. When the rest of my kids turned out to be just as unique and ill-suited for a conventional education environment, is when I decided to complete their education at home.
What was your experience with traditional education?
It turned sour early with the rampant closed door policy in public education. Also I couldn’t abide by their approach to teaching down to the least able of the class. Stilted progress in educational development for highly independent or intelligent children was simply part of the public education process and appropriate services were not offered to kids that didn’t fit the mold. You couldn’t operate outside the box or you were developmentally hindered.
What prompted you to be a home school curriculum evaluator?
When I started home schooling I quickly found out that you needed to consult an evaluator. Once I researched the law in PA., I decided to become an evaluator myself. Little did I know that I would be able to offer that service to so many other families these many years later.
On which subjects do you prefer to tutor children?
Teaching to read has always been very high on my list but I also enjoy history and science as well.
